Probate Court

The Ohio Revised Code places over two hundred (200) separate duties on the Probate Court. The types of cases handled by the Probate Court are specified in Ohio Revised Code Section 2101. Some of the most common matters handled include: estates; trusts; guardianships of incompetents and minors; adoptions; minor settlements; name changes; birth corrections; and issuance of marriage licenses. In order to fulfill the Court’s Mission Statement, the Lawrence County Probate Court performs its duties by treating all parties and participants with dignity and respect in order to promote public confidence and trust.

Juvenile Court

The Lawrence County Juvenile Court is responsible for providing quality services for the positive development of our children, the safety of our community, and the preservation of families. The Court has jurisdiction over juvenile-related matters including delinquency, unruly and traffic charges. The Court places emphasis on:

  • Holding youth accountable for their actions
  • Providing victims with a voice in the justice system
  • Protecting the public interest and safety
  • Building healthy communities for healthy youth
  • Providing for the care, protection, and mental and physical development of children who are within the jurisdiction of the court.

In addition to juvenile justice matters, the Court also has jurisdiction over dependency, abuse, and neglect allegations, certain custody, companionship time and child support issues.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Lawrence County Probate-Juvenile Court is to resolve matters in a timely manner through an impartial forum and to promote respect for the Rule of Law and instill public confidence by protecting individual rights, liberties, and ensuring public safety.
